Scottish Philosophy in Asia

Somewhat surprisingly Scottish philosophy had a recordable influence on thought and education even in parts of the world that had little in common with the European world of ideas out of which it grew. This was in part because of the British Empire, but also, and perhaps more significantly, because of the work of Scottish missionaries, notably in India and Taiwan.

Interest in Scottish philosophy of the 18th century, especially in economics and social theory, has been strong in Japan since the mid-20th century.
